Club Grows Exponentially

It seems as if all of the buzz surrounding our show has caused the membership to grow exponentially – for those of you who aren’t Math geeks like Amber, that means we’ve got more new members than you can shake a stick at. We have between 10 and 15 members regularly attending weekly meetings and over 40 individuals who are receiving our newsletter... and we haven’t even gotten to the fun part yet! Keep up all the advertising and talking up the club so we can continue to grow.

Newsletter Frequency

If you haven’t yet done so, please join our forums (click here to go to the registration form) and take the time to let us know how frequently you’d like to receive newsletters by voting in the poll (found here).

Additional Show Information

For those of you who are coming from out of town, we’ve been pulling links we thought would be useful to you. First on the list is driving directions from MapQuest. The link will take you directly to a page that has the address of the show site, and all you have to do is enter your starting address and hit the button. Click here for the directions.

Next is a list of hotels in the Roanoke Area including rates from Expedia. Click here to see that list.

If there is any other information that you would like to receive please e-mail us at: starcityhotwheels@cox.net.

Collector Corner

Jason Bedillion has been collecting and playing with Hot Wheels since he was a child, as evidenced by the pictures he willing shows anyone. His love for Hot Wheels (and cars in general) blossomed into a business known to almost every Hot Wheels Collector in the Roanoke Valley –

AUTO TOY EXCHANGE

located in Happy’s Flea Market.

Jason is the collector’s collector; he shows up to meetings with full unopened cases of Classics and let’s the club open and pick out what they want. If you can’t find a rare variation it’s a bet that Jason can find it for you or knows someone who can.

He’s given the club quite a scare the past month as he has been “threatening” to close up shop. Though we’d hate to see it happen, we’ve been benefiting from the 50% off sale – which by the way is still on going. He assuages our fears by telling us that even if he closes the shop, it won’t be permanently, as long as we can find him a place to move into... so keep your eyes open!

Show Preparations

Question: How many people does it take to assemble a track finish line? Answer: As many as can fit in Fred’s garage. The new track finish line has been completely assembled and tested. Get ready to see your car’s finishing position 50 yards away with huge 3 ½ inch LED readouts on all six lanes. Oops... I shouldn’t have let that slip; it was supposed to be a surprise.

We’ve gotten an enormous response from local businesses, too, and have received donations of everything from free drinks to gift cards to Hot Wheels hand soap. Just a bit of a reminder to all of our club members that the names and/or logos of any company sponsors should be given to Amber by the next meeting on July 21, 2006 so that she will be able to have the program ready to print.

We are still collecting door prizes, raffle prizes, and donations of all types, and will be accepting them up until the day of the show. Be sure if you are asking a company for a donation that you explain to them that if the donation has been arranged before July 21 we will be able to give them FREE advertising on the back of the program, and that there is an expected attendance of at least 400 people.

  NEWSFLASH!

Sizzlers have hit Central California Target stores. Keep your eyes out, because at the next show we’d like to have a Sizzlers race, much to the delight of Billy who loves “roundy round” racing.

CafePress.com

Jack39 was interested in having t-shirts made with the club logo. The club found a place online that would allow us to have shirts made on demand – CafePress.com. We apologize that shirts will not be available at the show, at this time (a bulk order cannot be processed quickly enough), though they may be at future shows. However, if you order one for yourself it will most likely arrive in time. Right now, there are two different styles of t-shirts, a golf shirt, a hat and a messenger bag available. There are plans for other merchandise in the works. To check it out click here.
